Central muscle relaxant effects of diazepam.

چکیده
Motor depressant effects of diazepam were studied in the intact, decerebrate and high spinal cat. Diazepam (0.125516 mg/kg, i.v.) produced a depression of both the patellar and linguomandibular reflexes in the intact cat. In the high spinal (Cl) cat only the linguomandibular reflex was depressed. Facilitation and inhibition of the patellar reflex elicited in both intact and high spinal (Cl) cats were reduced by diazepam. No depression was observed in the in viva neuromuscular preparation of the tibialis anticus muscle. Small doses of diazepam (0.125 mg/kg, i.v.) abolished the rigidity of the mid-collicular decerebrate cat. Mean arterial blood pressure was initially depressed in all animals (0.125-2 mg/kg) with an intact medullary vasomotor outflow. Larger doses (4-16 mg/kg) tended to return the blood pressure toward control levels. The present study presents evidence for both a brain stem reticular and a spinal cord site of action of diazepam on motor systems. Possible mechanisms of action of diazepam on motor systems are discussed.

Brain Targeted Transcranial Route of Drug Delivery of Diazepam
The term transcranial route means the brain targeted transfer of drug molecules across the cranium through the layers of the skin and skin appendages of the head, arteries and veins of the skin of the head, the cranial bones along with the diploe, the cranial bone sutures, the meninges and specifically through the emissary veins. The administration of drugs through the scalp in ayurvedic system...
متن کاملDiazepam (valium) as a muscle relaxant during general anaesthesia: a pilot study.
Diazepam (Valium) was given to 13 patients during nitrous oxide, oxygen and halothane anaesthesia. Abdominal relaxation was not regularly produced and the amount of tubocurarine required subsequently to produce relaxation was the same as required in patients who had not had diazepam. The drug produced central respiratory depression affecting tidal volume only. It tended to lower the blood press...
متن کاملComparison of the relaxant effects of diazepam, flunitrazepam and midazolam on airway smooth muscle.
The mechanisms by which benzodiazepines produce muscle relaxation and respiratory depression are not known, but they may include actions on peripheral benzodiazepine receptors or central GABA receptors, or a direct action on airway smooth muscle may also be involved. We have compared, therefore, the effects of diazepam, flunitrazepam and midazolam on airway tone by measuring isometric tension o...
متن کاملUterine relaxant effect of zolpidem: a comparison with other smooth muscle relaxants.
Zolpidem is an imidazopyridine sedative-hypnotic which interacts with central benzodiazepine-receptors. To examine its effects on uterine smooth muscle we have compared with those obtained by diltiazem, papaverine and diazepam on different experimental models. The IC50 values obtained indicate similar behaviour of zolpidem and diazepam. They showed more active against the spontaneous contractio...
متن کاملScreening of Skeletal Muscle Relaxant Activity of Plant Vicia Faba
The study was designed to investigate the skeletal muscle relaxant activity of vicia faba (400mg/kg, p.o) by using rota rod apparatus. Experiments were carried out on albino mice and the animals were randomly allotted to the different control, test and standard (diazepam 4mg/kg, p.o) groups. The methanolic extract significantly reduced the fall off time (4.33sec) in comparision with the fall of...
